Vampire Crawlers Best Builds: Three Decks That Win

Vampire Crawlers is a combo game wearing a dungeon crawler costume. These three builds are built entirely from verified card data: every number here is real.

Build 1: The Combo Engine (your default deck)

The core loop: play cards in ascending mana cost, never break the chain, and let the multiplier (starts at +100%) scale your draw and stat cards until you're playing your entire deck every turn.

The rules of the engine:

  • Combo builds on ascending costs: 0 → 1 → 2 → 3... You can start anywhere, but lower starts leave more room to climb.
  • A card at the same cost as the previous one ends the combo, and doesn't even get the bonus itself. 0-1-2-2 is a trap.
  • Combo scales card effects (stat boosts, draws, mana) but not gem effects.
  • Wild cards slot in anywhere without breaking the chain: 3 → Wild → 6 is legal.
  • The Return gem doesn't advance combo (the card goes back to your hand), which means you can loop a single Return-gemmed Attractorb twice at the same cost step.
  • The multiplier is only one of three: Might and Area multiply the card's bracket separately, so a combo engine that never buys Might still tops out (how the numbers stack).

The pieces:

Role Cards
Draw Attractorb, Bracer (Deal Count), Pasqualina/Poe triggers
Mana Empty Tome → Light Tome → Weighty Tome → Ancient Tome
Combo glue Permanent Wilds: Friendship Amulet, Wings (persist, replayable)
Wild generation Celestial Dusting, Song of Mana
Damage Whatever your evolution line gives you: Holy Wand and Thousand Edge are reliable

Key upgrades:

  • Chain Link arcana (unlock: reach combo count 12): combo persists between turns. This is the single biggest quality-of-life upgrade in the game; it also saves you from the card-cracking problem (below).
  • Fireproof gem: makes destroyed-on-use Wild cards permanent.
  • Wild gem: turns any card into a Wild. Combo Breaker lets anything combo into the socketed card. Reverse Combo lets the chain run both directions.
  • Hand size (Poppea +1, Pasqualina trigger): more cards per turn, more combo fuel.

The cracking rule: keep a turn going too long and your cards start to crack. Keep playing cracked cards and they shatter: permanently destroyed for the run, and each shattered card spawns a Trickster. End your turn before the cracks; with Chain Link, ending the turn is free.

Build 2: The Red Death Freeze Deck

The boss-killing deck. Full write-up in Secrets: Killing Red Death: the short version:

  • Krochi lead (Revive refills at high combo), Pugnala second, Gallo third if you have the slot.
  • Clock Lancet ×2–3: Freeze Red Death on every 6th card (his attack trigger).
  • Tomes + Attractorb + 3–4 permanent Wilds to never break combo.
  • Coin Count as the win condition if you farmed gold, Decimate gem otherwise.
  • Arcana: Chain Link (safer) or Mana Syphon (faster start).

Build 3: The Starter Budget Deck (first 2 hours)

Before you own anything, this is the highest-value path:

  1. Antonio and Imelda are free: run both. Antonio's +3 Armor and red-card damage trigger carry early fights; Imelda's +15 XP accelerates unlocks.
  2. Buy Pasqualina first (100 gold): splash damage plus +1 Hand per purple trigger is absurd value for the price.
  3. Arca (300) next if you're playing Tomes: +1 Mana per purple card.
  4. First evolution target: Holy Wand (Magic Wand + any Tome): 30 damage for 0 cost becomes 160 for 2, and it still prioritizes attackers.
  5. Break every light source you see: coins, Stone Masks, Little Clovers and Vacuum cards drop from them.
  6. Unlock Gems by finding the Gem Hammer relic in the Mad Forest, and Arcana via the Polentír relic in the Furious Forest.

Arcana picks

Unlock the Fortune Teller with the Polentír relic (Furious Forest: the difficulty-2 version of Mad Forest). Equip one per run; find more in purple chests after the Arcana Finder relic. All 16 (12 at launch + 4 from Death Parade):

Arcana Effect Unlock
Chain Link Combos don't clear between turns Reach combo 12+
Mana Syphon +1 max Mana for the rest of the run per 100 cards played Gain 15 Mana in a turn
Sharp Mind Keep up to 5 Mana between turns Play 100 purple cards
Experimental Medicine Double healing Obtain the Polentír
Shield Bash Deal your Armor as damage to the front row after playing an Armor card Obtain the Polentír
And Another Cards are free if a version was played this turn Play 100 free-to-play cards
Over the Top When a Crawler expires, put them on top of your deck Play 100 Crawler cards
Make a Scene Crawler triggers activate for free each turn Activate 1,500 Crawler abilities
Jester's Hat +1 Wild Card per floor Play 150 Wild cards
Wild Buff Light-source cards benefit from combo multiplier Play 200 light-source cards
Swollen Fist End of turn: damage = 2× your deck pile size Reach 40 deck size
Your Shield My Liege Armor persists between turns Gain 2,000 Armor
Ebb and Combo Discarding has a 50% chance to add combo Complete a 15 combo on Moongolow
Crawler Brawler Crawlers trigger extra randomly, but tire Beat Spectral Gallo
Chair Game When nothing continues the combo, trigger Switch 4 Play 50 Switch cards
Infinite Combo Draw a new hand when your last card continues the combo End 10 turns with an empty hand

How to pick: early game, Mana Syphon or Sharp Mind fix your Mana curve, and Experimental Medicine handles chip damage. Mid game, And Another lets you ignore Mana entirely and cycle the deck. Late game, Chain Link is the combo-deck king: massive cross-turn combos with Wild looping. For the Red Death fight specifically: Chain Link (safer) or Mana Syphon (faster start).
